At
least 21 people, mostly children, drowned in 14 districts during the vacation
on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, report Bonik Barta district correspondents.
Of
the deceased, 4 died in Munshiganj, 2 each in Jamalpur, Sherpur, Thakurgaon and
Natore and one each in Jessore, Jhalakathi, Barisal, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram,
Feni, Bogra, Tangail and Moulvibazar.
In
a single incident on Friday last, three individuals met their death while
bathing in the River Padma River at Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj district. On
the same day, Sultan Sarder, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Malaysia, fell into a
pond while doing ablution and died.
On
Sunday, 2 children drowned in Nalitabari, Sherpur district last Sunday. Another
two children drowned in Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon while two brothers drowned
in Jamuna on Saturday. In Natore, 2 cousins met their death in a pond adjacent
to their homes on Saturday.
