Flood situation in Rangpur is improving as the upstream water flow has decreased and rainfall has lessened. Since Monday afternoon (September 30), the water level of the Teesta River at the Kaunia point has dropped 11 centimeters below the danger level. Yesterday night (Sunday, September 29), the water was flowing 31 centimeters above the danger level.

Rabiul Islam, Executive Engineer of the Rangpur Water Development Board, reported that at 6:00 pm on Sunday, the water at the Kaunia Teesta Rail Bridge point was flowing 32 centimeters above the danger level. Although the water rose overnight, it started receding in the early morning. Abdullah Al Hadi, Chairman of Lakshmitari Union Parishad in Gongachara upazila, stated that the flood situation in his area is improving as the water level recedes.

Balapara Union in Kaunia upazila is usually the first to be affected by any rise in the Teesta’s water levels. Ansar Ali, Chairman of Balapara Union Parishad, also confirmed that water is receding quickly from his area, but the local residents continue to suffer from various difficulties despite the decrease in water levels.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board reported that the water level at the Teesta Barrage has dropped to 45 centimeters below the danger level.

According to the Rangpur Meteorological Office, no significant rainfall was recorded in the district in the last 24 hours.
