Dr.
Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas
Employment, stated that airport services in the country have already been
improved. “We are introducing another service—remittance warriors will receive
VIP services upon arrival at the airport. They will get all the benefits of a
VIP except for lounge access,” he said.
He
made the remarks during a briefing on recent issues held at the Ministry’s
conference room on Tuesday (September 24) afternoon.
Dr.
Nazrul explained that when a VIP enters the airport, someone assists with luggage,
check-in, and immigration. “Initially, we are targeting workers from the Middle
East, and later we will include those from Europe. In the first phase, workers
traveling to and from the Middle East will receive VIP treatment. The
possibility of allowing lounge access will be considered later. Within the next
two weeks to a month, we will eliminate the difficulties workers face upon
arriving at the airport”, he added.
He
further mentioned, “The airport’s expatriates’ welfare desk will assist workers
with entry procedures, check-in, form-filling if required, and any
immigration-related documents. If necessary, we will recruit new staff through
outsourcing and provide them with training. We have zero tolerance for any
situation where expatriates face harassment or feel humiliated at the airport.”
