Energy, and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan expressed
optimism that the current electricity situation would improve within the next
three weeks. Khan made these remarks yesterday (Wednesday, September 11) during
an interview with a delegation from the Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh
(FERB) at the ministry’s conference room. FERB Chairman Shamim Jahangir, Executive
Director Serajul Islam Siraj, and others were present.
On
the issue of load-shedding, Fawzul Kabir Khan said, “There has been a technical
issue at the Barapukuria power plant, which is being repaired swiftly. The
Rampal power plant has been restarted, communication with Adani is ongoing, and
steps have been taken to expedite gas imports.” He added, “Since taking office,
numerous actions have been taken. The Special Powers Act of 2010 for the quick
supply of electricity and energy has been suspended. Article 34(a) of the
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Act has been repealed. The price
of fuel oil has been reduced, chairpersons of various electricity and energy
companies have been replaced, and policies have been created to stop the practice
of bribery and corrupt transfers in the sector.”
He
further stated, “The difference between the current government and previous
governments is that this government was not formed through a rigged election.
It was established through the sacrifice of countless students and
citizens.”
Adviser
Fawzul Kabir Khan emphasized that he has no personal preferences when it comes
to appointments. “I don’t rely on statistics. I will judge our work by how much
we truly benefit the people. Progress will be evaluated based on the reality on
the ground.”
At
the event, he urged journalists to support his efforts by providing information
on corruption and irregularities in the electricity and energy sectors.
The
FERB delegation welcomed Fawzul Kabir Khan to his new role, pledging to
continue exposing corruption and irregularities in the sector through their
unbiased reporting, with the aim of helping build a sustainable energy system.
