Grameenphone,
one of the leading telecom operators in the country, has deposited BDT 244
million into the Bangladesh Labor Welfare Foundation’s fund. Grameenphone has
maintained this tradition of donations, reaffirming its commitment to workers’
welfare and responsible corporate practices.
This
Sunday (September 29) at an event organized by the Ministry of Labor and Employment,
a Grameenphone delegation led by Chief Human Resources Officer Syeda Tahya
Hossain handed over a check of the donation to Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan,
Adviser to the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
During
the event, Adviser Asif Mahmud stated that many workers are unaware of the
existence of the Labor Welfare Fund. He pointed out that workers lack a clear
understanding of how to apply for funds or receive benefits. He added that
during the previous administration, there was mismanagement of this fund. “We
want to ensure that the funds are transparently and accountably distributed to
workers. We are working on digitizing the fund management system”, the Adviser
added.
The
adviser also emphasized, “Business entities that have not yet contributed to this
fund will also be included. We are bringing all institutions under
accountability. Our work for the overall welfare of workers will continue.”
Present
at the event were Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment AHM
Shafiquzzaman, Grameenphone’s Head of Industrial Relations and Culture Mohammad
Aulad Hossain, Head of Compensation and Benefits Mohammad Khaled Mridha, Senior
Industrial Relations Expert Muhammad Tawhidul Islam, and Industrial Relations
