Trial begins against 5 including Regent Chairman Shahed

A Dhaka Court framed charges on Thursday against five people, including Chairman of Regent Hospital Mohammad Shahed, for allegedly giving fake COVID-19 test reports and charging taka 2.66 Lakh.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate ((CMM) Court Mohna Alamgir officially started the judicial proceedings of the case by framing charges against the accused.

Besides Shahed, other accused in the case are- Dipayan Basu, 32, Anindya Dutta, 31, Masud Parvez, 40 and M. Mizanur Rahman, 39.

Among them, Dipayan Basu and Anindya Dutta have been absconding since the beginning of the case.

On July 20, 2020, Md. Rezaul Karim, an administrative officer of the Exceed Corporation Limited, filed a case with Uttara-West Police Station of the capital, alleging that 76 workers at the metro rail construction site were given fake COVID-19 test reports and the hospital had embezzled Tk 2.66 lakh for the sake of the tests.

After investigating the case, Sub-Inspector Md Yeadur Rahman of the Uttara West Police Station submitted charge sheet to the court on May 30, 2021.
