Due to a spring shifting
on a section of the Metro Rail viaduct, metro services are partially suspended
on that route. The spring's displacement has caused some unevenness in the
viaduct's alignment, creating a risk for metro operations. This incident
occurred on Wednesday morning (September 18). Upon receiving the news, MRT
Line-6 officials arrived at the site and began repair work.
Investigations have
revealed that one of the four springs on the viaduct above a pillar in front of
Islamia Eye Hospital has shifted after the Farmgate Station of the metro rail.
As a result, a section of the viaduct between Farmgate and Bijoy Sarani has
sagged. This has halted the metro train operations on the
Agargaon-Motijheel-Agargaon route, which will remain closed until the issue is
resolved.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf,
Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said, "We
have encountered a technical fault. Repair work is underway, and it may take
one and a half to two hours. Work has already begun."
When asked about the
technical fault, he said, "There are four springs on the viaduct above the
pillar. One of the springs has become displaced. We have been able to identify
the issue. Trains can operate on that section, but it becomes risky. For the
safety of passengers, trains will only be operated after resolving the issue."
