Dr.
ATM Tariquzzaman, Commissioner of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange
Commission (BSEC), has resigned. He submitted his resignation letter to the
Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance
today, Tuesday (September 17). Dr. Tariquzzaman confirmed this information to
Bonik Barta.
Earlier,
on September 11, a notification was issued by the Financial Institutions
Division, relieving him from his duties with a three-month notice.
Subsequently, on September 15, his responsibilities as a BSEC commissioner were
redistributed, leaving him without an office.
Recently,
a letter containing several allegations against Dr. ATM Tariquzzaman was sent
to the Finance Adviser. The Adviser’s office forwarded the letter to the
Financial Institutions Division for review. Shortly after, a notification was
issued relieving him of his duties.
Dr.
ATM Tariquzzaman was appointed as a BSEC Commissioner for four years by the
government on May 8 of this year. Prior to that, on September 17 last year, he
had joined the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) as Managing Director. After being
appointed as a BSEC Commissioner in May this year, he resigned from his
position as Managing Director of the DSE to join the Commission. Before joining
the DSE, he served as Executive Director at BSEC.
