Professor
Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman of the civil engineering department has
been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of
Engineering and Technology (BUET).
This
information was released on Thursday (September 12) through a notification from
the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
According
to the notification, the appointment was made with the approval of the
President and Chancellor under sections 11(1) and (2) of the BUET Ordinance, 1961.
Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman has been appointed to the position under
five conditions.
The
notification further stated that Professor Badruzzaman has been appointed as
Vice Chancellor for a four-year term. In addition to receiving his current
salary and allowances, he will enjoy the benefits of the Vice Chancellor
position as per regulations and will reside on campus full-time as the chief
executive officer of the university. The President and Chancellor reserve the
right to revoke his appointment at any time if necessary.
After
the fall of the Awami League-led government on August 5, changes have swept
across top positions in various public and private institutions, including
universities. In line with this, BUET Vice Chancellor Professor Satya Prasad
Majumder resigned on August 18.
Meanwhile,
in a separate order from the government, Professor Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury
from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) has been
appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUET.
