Today (Saturday, October 5) marks
the first day of the third round of discussions with political parties, where
the interim government will sit down with the BNP. The discussions will begin
at 2.30 pm at the State Guest House Jamuna.
During this round of talks, parties
will be informed about the six reform commissions. Discussions will also
address the country's law and order situation.
Following the BNP, the interim
government will meet with Jamaat-e-Islami at 3 pm, the Gono front at 3.30 pm,
the Left Democratic Alliance at 4 pm, Hefazat-e-Islam at 4.30 pm, the Islamic
Movement of Bangladesh at 5 pm, and finally, the AB (Amar Bangladesh) Party at
5.30 pm.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a BNP's media
cell member, announced that Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will
lead the BNP delegation.
The interim government held its
first meeting with political parties on August 15 regarding the cancellation of
the holiday on National Mourning Day. Following the discussions, the interim
government announced the cancellation of the holiday. The second round of
discussions took place at the end of August, during which most parties
expressed support for holding national parliamentary elections after necessary
reforms.
Regarding the third round of
discussions, Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated in a briefing
last Wednesday evening that the main topic will be to inform the parties about
the progress of the reform commissions. Discussions will also include the
country's law and order situation, and the parties' suggestions will be sought.
He mentioned that Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and other advisors
of the interim government will also be present at the discussions.
The interim government has
established separate commissions for reforms in six areas: the election system,
police administration, judiciary, public administration, anti-corruption, and
the constitution.
Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of
Shujan, will lead the election system reform commission, while Sarfaraz
Chowdhury will lead the police administration reform commission. Justice Shah
Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman, a former judge of the Supreme Court, will lead the
judiciary reform commission. Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, a former adviser to the
caretaker government, will lead the public administration reform commission;
Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh,
will lead the anti-corruption reform commission; and Dr Shahdeen Malik, an
advocate of the Supreme Court, will lead the constitution reform commission
