On August 5, the day the Awami League government was overthrown in a student-led uprising, Hizb ut-Tahrir, a banned organization since 2009, held a public rally in the capital. The organization claimed that its members were active in the movement to overthrow Sheikh Hasina's government alongside the students. Recently, the organization also called for the ban to be lifted during a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
