Bangladesh begins Women's T20 World Cup with victory: beats Scotland by 16 runs in opening match in Sharjah. After 10 years, Bangladesh's women won the T20 World Cup.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bat and set a modest target of 120 runs for the opposition. The red-and-green team scored 119 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. However, the bowlers, capitalizing on that score, secured a fantastic victory for the team by 16 runs.

This is the first time Bangladesh has won a match in the T20 World Cup since 2014. The victory came in the 100th match of Bangladesh's captain. In this match, spinner Nahida Akter became the first Bangladeshi bowler to reach the milestone of 100 wickets in T20 cricket, achieving this in her 88th match.

Chasing the target, Scotland managed to score 103 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs against the resistance of the Bangladeshi bowlers. Sarah Bryce remained unbeaten with the highest score of 49 runs. Ritu Moni took 2 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs, while Marufa Akter, Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun, and Rabeya Khan each took 1 wicket.

"Earlier, Bangladesh fought hard to set a target of 119 runs. Sobhana Mostari was the top scorer with 36 runs from 38 balls. Additionally, Sathi Rani scored 29 runs off 32 balls, Nigah made 18 runs off 18 balls, and Fahima Khatun contributed 10 runs off 5 balls. Saskia Horley took 3 wickets for Scotland for 13 runs, while Rachel Slater, Olivia Bell, and Katherine Fraser each claimed 1 wicket.

Scotland has never defeated Bangladesh in their five encounters in T20 matches.

In the 2014 World Cup held at home, Bangladesh had defeated Sri Lanka by 3 runs. Since then, they have gone winless in the 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023 World Cups, during which Nigar played. This time, however, they have achieved a much-needed victory."
