The Central Health Subcommittee and the Jatiya Nagorik
Committee have prepared a preliminary list of casualties from the
student-public uprising. According to the list compiled by the committee,
formed on behalf of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a total of 1,581 people have been killed nationwide. More than 31,000 people were injured during this movement. This
information was disclosed at a press conference held on Saturday (September 28) at 3:30 pm at the Teacher-Student
Center of Dhaka University.
The press conference revealed that most of the victims
were young individuals from poor families, aged between 18
and 30 years. However, the committee members clarified
that this figure is not final.
Committee Secretary Tariqul Islam stated, “Our preliminary
list has been sent to committees led by district commissioners in each district
for verification. Once verified, the final list will be submitted to the
Ministry of Health.”
Officials reported that organizations such as As-Sunnah
Foundation, Human Rights Support Society, and Red July, among others, assisted
in compiling the list. Additionally, several local individuals provided crucial
information, which played a significant role in the creation of the list.
Farhad Alam Bhuiyan, a member of the Jatiya Nagorik
Committee, mentioned that over 31,000 injuries have been
reported so far. However, the verification process is still ongoing, and the
number may increase. The final list will be announced later.
Also present at the press conference were Nahida Bushra
Iti, convener of the Health Subcommittee, and Md. Nasir Uddin Patwari, convener
of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, along with several others.
