The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission will begin on September 24 and continue until September 30. Recently, Bangladesh requested an additional 3 billion dollars in assistance under the loan program. According to the Ministry of Finance sources, the mission is primarily to assess this matter in Bangladesh.

According to information, officials from the IMF, led by Chris Papageorgiou, head of the Development Macroeconomics Division of the research branch, will visit Bangladesh from September 24 to 30. During this time, they will hold meetings with the Ministry of Finance, the Bangladesh Bank, and various government agencies. This will be the first IMF mission since the interim government took office. In addition to gaining insights into the new government's policy strategies, the mission officials will also evaluate the request for an additional 3 billion dollars in assistance under the loan program.

Officials from the Ministry of Finance reported that Bangladesh had received 2.295 billion dollars in three tranches from the existing 4.7 billion dollar loan program with the IMF. Since the interim government took office, an additional 3 billion dollars has been requested from the organization. The IMF mission will primarily discuss the conditions and reforms that must be implemented. They will also try to understand the new government's policy strategies. After the conclusion of this IMF mission, another mission will visit Bangladesh before the disbursement of the fourth tranche of the existing loan. Although this mission is expected to arrive next month, it has been indicated that it may be postponed to November.

Led by Chris Papageorgiou, the IMF review mission officials visited Bangladesh from April 24 to May 8. Based on the review mission's report, the IMF board approved the disbursement of 1.148 billion dollars as the third tranche of Bangladesh's loan program on June 24.
