Lieutenant General Md Mujibur Rahman, the General Officer
Commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, has been dismissed.
Another Lieutenant General, Mohammad Saiful Alam, has been given
"premature compulsory retirement." Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad
Sami-Ud-Dowla, Director of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed
this information on Thursday.
Lieutenant General Md
Mujibur Rahman previously served as the Quartermaster General at Army
Headquarters. He was also the Additional Director General of Border Guard
Bangladesh (BGB) and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Lieutenant General
Mujibur Rahman gained prominence for conducting "Operation
Thunderbolt" during the terrorist attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in
July 2016. Later, he became the Director General of the Special Security Force
(SSF).
On the other hand, after
the fall of the Awami League-led government, Lieutenant General Md Saiful Alam
was assigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most recently, he served as
the Commandant of the National Defence College. Before that, Saiful Alam held
various positions, including Quartermaster General of the Army, Director
General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), and General
Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 11th Infantry Division.
On September 4, an order was issued to freeze the bank accounts of Lieutenant General Md Saiful Alam and his wife,
Lubna Afroz. The central bank's Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) also
directed the freezing of bank accounts belonging to their children and owned
enterprises.
Following the fall of
the Awami League-led government, on August 6, several top positions, including
Chief of General Staff of the Bangladesh Army and General Officer Commanding
(GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, were reshuffled. On the same
day, Major General Ziaul Ahsan was also relieved of his duties.
