Landslide kills couple in Cox's Bazar

A couple died following a landslide in Badshagona area of Cox's Bazar town in the early hours Friday as the
district witnessed heavy rainfalls for the last few days.

The victims were identified as Anwar Hossain, a Muajjin of local Omar Faruque Jame Mosque and his pregnant wife Maimuna Akhter.

"Anwar and his wife faced the tragic death due to a landslide in my area," said Helal Uddin Kabir, a counselor of Ward no-9 of Cox's Bazar Municipality.

Suddenly, the landslide occurred here on Friday morning due to overnight rainfall, the counselor added.

Before the arrival of policemen and firefighters in the spot, locals rescued and rushed the couple to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared them dead.

Earlier, a total of 10 people, including two locals and eight other Rohingyas, died in separate landslides at Rohingya camp in Ukhiya under Cox's Bazar on Wednesday (June 19).
