Death toll reaches 10 in landslides at Cox's Bazar Rohingya camps

Death toll in landslides at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar reached 10 as the rescuers recovered one more body on Wednesday afternoon.

Fire fighters recovered the body of Md Salman, son of Md Jamal of camp-9.
 
The landslides caused by heavy rain in two camps at Balukhali in Ukhiya upazila affected Rohingya camp No. 8, 9, 10 and 14, said Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Commander Additional DIG Md Amir Zafar.

He said the accident took place at Panbazar and Hakimpara camps in the early hours on Wednesday. The deceased include two locals and eight Rohingyas.

Earlier, rescuers recovered nine bodies and they were identified as M Hares, 12, Futuni, 34, M Kamal, Selina Khatun, M Meher, Joinab Bibi, Hossain Ahmad, his wife Anowara Begum and their son Abdul Karim, 4.

The bodies of the deceased were kept under the custody of the upazila administration.

Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said local administration has taken steps to shift Rohingyas living near the hill sides to safe places.
