Over 10 million animals sacrificed on Eid-ul-Azha this year, ministry says

A total of 10,408,918 animals were sacrificed across the country on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha this year.

As many as 367,106 more animals were slaughtered this year compared to previous year, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said in a press release on Tuesday.

This year the highest number of animals was sacrificed in Dhaka division while Mymensingh division witnessed the lowest number.

As per the information received from field level, 2,529,182 animals were slaughtered in Dhaka Division, 2,057,520 in Chattogram Division, 2,426,111 in Rajshahi Division, 1,080,855 in Khulna Division, 428,438 in Barisal Division, 393,742 cattle were slaughtered in the Sylhet division, 1,172,553 in Rangpur division and 392,517 in Mymensingh division.

Of the sacrificed animals, cows were 4,766,859, buffaloes 112,918, goats were 5,056,719, sheep 471,149, and other animals were 1,273.
