The Ship Breaking Workers’ Trade Union Forum (SBWTUF) has demanded that their full wages for the month of May, partial wages for June and Eid-ul-Azha festival bonus equal to the basic salary be paid by June 10 in accordance with the law.

The organization of ship breaking workers made the demand at the Chittagong Press Club after forming a human chain and holding a meeting on Friday afternoon.

Speakers said that it has become very difficult to manage livelihood with the wages ship breaking workers get. The wages declared for the workers in this sector in 2018 has not yet been implemented. Although it was not declared in five years, time has come to form another wage board.

Another wage board must be formed immediately and the minimum wages for workers will have to be fixed at Tk 20,000 per month, they added.
