CPB leader Haider Akbar Khan Rono passes away

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) advisor, veteran leftist politician and valiant freedom fighter Haider Akbar Khan Rono passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital early on Saturday at the age of 82.

Rono died at the Health and Hope Hospital in the capital at 2:05 am on Saturday, CPB central committee member Jolly Talukder told BSS.

He is survived by his only daughter Rana Sultana and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

Jolly Talukder said, "The veteran leftist leader was receiving treatment from his residence in Dhanmondi. He was admitted to the Health and Hope Hospital when he felt very ill on Monday evening last."

Rono was born on August 31, 1942 in Kolkata. He was involved with the Communist Party's activities in 1960 when he was a student of Physics Department at Dhaka University.

From 1963 to 1965, he was elected general secretary of the 'East Pakistan Students Union'. In 1966, he directly got involved in the labor movement.

He has written many books on politics, economics, philosophy and even literature and science.

He was awarded the prestigious 'Bangla Academy Sahittya Purashkar' in 2022.
