Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will deliver a speech
today, Friday (September 27), at the 79th session of the United Nations General
Assembly. He is scheduled to speak at 10 am local time in New York in the
General Assembly hall of the UN headquarters. Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus will be
addressing the General Assembly in Bengali.
It has been reported that he will outline the context
in which he has taken on the role of Chief Advisor to the interim government
and the initiatives he has undertaken for state reform. Additionally, he will
call for immediate action to stop the genocide in Palestine and the
Russia-Ukraine war and seek global support and assistance to resolve the
Rohingya crisis. In his speech, he will also address issues such as climate
change, inclusive economic development, and other global and regional matters.
Dr. Yunus will inform the world about the new
possibilities for transforming the existing state structure and institutions
with global support in the new Bangladesh formed after the students'
revolution.
In his speech, he will highlight the movements of
students and youth and various measures he has taken to build a society free
from discrimination. He may also emphasize that this mass uprising in
Bangladesh can inspire freedom-loving people around the world. He will describe
how the people of Bangladesh stood firmly against autocracy, oppression,
inequality, injustice, and corruption in the streets and on social media.
In his speech, the Chief Advisor will describe the
unprecedented mass uprising that has taken place in Bangladesh over the past
two months and express a strong commitment to establishing a state system that
is people-centric, welfare-oriented, and dedicated to public interest. This
year's debate theme at the 79th United Nations General Assembly session is
"Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace,
Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future
Generations."
