University of Asia Pacific (UAP), a private university, has taken an initiative to support higher education for female students of Palestine.

As part of the initiative, UAP has granted scholarship to thirty female students from the war-torn region of Gaza, in Palestine, said a press release issued by the university on Tuesday (30 April).

The scholarship will cover accommodation, travel costs, tuition fees, healthcare and a stipend.

The UAP authorities made the decision to offer full scholarship to the Palestinian students in response to a request made by the Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yusef SY Ramadan, during his visit to the university campus on Sunday. During his visit, Ambassador Ramadan discussed the plight of the people of the war-inflicted region, especially of women who are feared to be victims of Israeli army attacks in Rafah, a Palestinian city in the southern Gaza Strip where millions of people have taken shelter from the war-inflicted regions. Because of the turmoil that is going on in Palestine, it is complete violation of human rights and tantamount to genocide.

UAP has decided to offer the scholarship as a gesture of ongoing support to Palestinian people from Bangladesh.

At that time, among others, Architect Mahbuba Haque, Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BoT), UAP; Dr. M. Alauddin, Member, BoT; Monzoor Ahmed Chowdhury, Member, BoT; Abdul Mohin Chowdhury, Member, BoT; Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Member, BoT, K. M. Mozibul Hoque, Member, BoT; Professor Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor, UAP; Professor Dr. Md. Sultan Mahmud, Pro Vice-Chancellor, UAP and Deans of all faculties were present.
