In
response to an ultimatum from the anti-discrimination student movement,
President Mohammed Shahabuddin has dissolved the Parliament. On Tuesday (August
6), the movement’s coordinators had set a deadline of 3 pm for the dissolution
of Parliament.
In
a video message, coordinator Nahid Islam stated that despite a popular uprising,
the parliament led by what he termed as "fascist" Sheikh Hasina had
not been dissolved. He warned that if Parliament was not dissolved by the 3 pm
deadline, the movement would announce more stringent measures the following
day. He called on the revolutionary students and people to remain prepared.
Nahid
Islam also emphasized the need for the student movement to work swiftly to
restore stability and law and order in the country.
