2 people including a child died in a landslide in Cox’s Bazar

Heavy rainfall has caused a tragic incident where two people, including a child, lost their lives due to a landslide early this morning in Cox's Bazar.

The deceased are identified as Mr. Hasan, 10, son of Saiful from Sikdar Para area of Cox's Bazar city, and Mrs. Jamila Begum, 30, wife of Mohammad Karim from Purba Polan Kata area.

According to Karim, deceased Jamila Begum's husband, they were preparing breakfast with the family when suddenly a landslide hit their residence on the hillside. Residents rescued Jamila and rushed her to Cox's Bazar District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Dr. Md  Ashiqur Rahman, Residential Officer of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, confirmed that heavy rainfall triggered landslides, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, one being a child and the other a woman.

Deceased bodies have been kept at the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.

Rokibuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox's Bazar Police Station, said that several areas in Cox's Bazar city have witnessed landslides that have resulted in casualties.

The Cox's Bazar Fire Service inspected the landslide-affected areas and confirmed the deaths of two people due to the landslide.

Abdul Hannan, the Assistant Meteorologist of Cox's Bazar Met Office, said that Cox's Bazar recorded 94 millimeters of rainfall from 6 am to 9 am on Thursday (July 11).
